I visited with Dr. Chin, my Podiatrist, yesterday morning. They finally got my orthotics in, and I was super pumped to walk in, grab them, and let the healing begin. These aren't typical orthotics...they're specially designed for runners.
And though they came with these directions, Dr. Chin told me to go ahead and wear them as long as I can, up until *almost* the point of achy.
I put them on in the office and was asked to walk around in them for a minute, and to pay special attention to any wonkiness that I felt. They shaved them down a bit, because they felt super awkward around the inside of the heel. After patiently waiting for this, instructions on using them, and probably some other important information, I got an answer to the question that was burning a hole in my brain.
I was really, really, really, really, really X 100000000 excited to hear those magic words that every injured runner wants to hear ----> "You can run." And I did. Sort of.
Dr. Chin wants for me to break in the orthotics a bit before going for a run. And by "going for a run", I mean "a very structured walking and running workout". I have to ease back into this. And while I am very grateful and thankful that I'm healing and will soon have the green light to *go*, I'm still worried about a couple of things. That's probably just my nerves, though. I can't be too sure. Again, thank you, Suz, for letting me go a little nuts yesterday.
To be honest: I want to just get out there and run, and not have to worry about an interval workout.
But you know what? I'll probably end up right where I started six months ago if I do that. So I will be patient. Patient until I burst, that is.:) I will wait six (now) more days, try the test that Dr. Chin gave me (hopping up and down on each foot 30 times, and if there's no pain, then I get to rock it out), and then G-O.

Today was much better than yesterday (morning). Bagels are my new favorite food group.
Sophs and I are currently snuggled up, watching "The Simpsons", and I'm rocking BOMBAS wool socks. 16*F...geez. At least my toesies are warm and cozy!
As you can see, she's all set for the afternoon.
And she found something for dinner for tonight. I grabbed this from my Mom when we were down in Texas. I remember getting it for her, because she L-O-V-E-D "Friends" (back when it was on non-syndicated TV). This cookbook was printed in 1995.:D
Y'all have an awesome rest of your Saturday! I'm about to hop on Lola for a spin, then some yumminess is getting made!

Did you run today? Tell me about it!
Do you have a favorite pair of cozy socks?
What's for DINNER?!
Such good news! I think you'd have to handcuff me to the couch to keep me from running after hearing that. I'm looking forward to seeing you back on the road!
ReplyDeleteI am obsessed with SmartWool socks. Every time I see a pair on sale, I have to buy them. Which means I have a lot of them.
Look at it this way: you get to do SPEEDWORK! Wahooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay! Yay! Yay! I'm doing a happy dance for you! That run has been a long time coming and I can't wait for you to hit the ground and get after it. I've coveted those socks for awhile now. xoxo
