Temporarily Sidelined

So my right knee has a small case of the wonkies.  And by "wonkies", I mean a small pain right below the patella, which equates to some meniscus-y type of inflammation.  This has been happening since last week.  It's not crippling, by any means, and it doesn't hurt to run; however, I don't want it to get that point!  Silver lining:  I'm happy it happened now and not in the middle of marathon training, which begins in about a week and a half!  I've taken this week off from running, with the exception of Tuesday, where I felt the wonk for most of the day after a short three-miler.

I even took off Wednesday evening's /R/iver /R/unners track meetup run.  Boooooo!  I did sit on the bleachers and WATCH them run, which totally constituted me having a burger and a beer with the gang.  ;)

I have been swimming this week...

And getting in some Yoga...

And this morning, rode my bike out at work with a friend!  GOOD TIMES!

These flowers were growing around one spot of the trail in huge tufts.  Of course, I was toward the end of this one particular spot by the time I got my camera out.  ;)  They were GORGEOUS and smelled so pretty!

My friend, Barry, is a fantastic buddy and co-worker of mine.  He's the positive force that sometimes gets me through my workday.  We weren't really all that speedy this morning, but kept a leisurely pace around the forest preserve.  This trail is about 7.2 miles around, and has mostly rollers, with a few good hills.

We spotted a couple of deer running across this pasture, and again, I got my camera out late.  Can you spot one here?

Here's hoping that staying off my feet will help out the knee a bit!  I also think this is a great time to reflect on some other aspects in my life, as I explained in a recent post.  I do have my first ZOOMA training run tomorrow morning, and it's only three miles.  This will be a good gauge of how the knee is, and I get to meet some of the other ZOOMA Chicago Ambassadors!  WOOT!  :)

It's almost summer!  Do you have big plans for the weekend?

What do you do when you're injured?  Do you try different ways to move, or do you rest?
-I think this totally depends on the injury, but for the most part, I try to move my body!

Any summer reading happening?   TELL ME!

  1. You should join Goodreads, if you haven't already. It's a great way to connect with other people who read. You can also win books! I won one today, and that is by far the highlight of today.

  3. With all of the injuries I've had this year, you bet I've become pretty acquainted with other ways to move. I've been doing lots of what you mentioned--spin bike for me (sadly no bike of my own), yoga, and swimming. I hope your knee gets better STAT! And have fun with the Zooma ambassadors--and find out why ZOOMA never even responded to my application! ;) You don't have to do that, obviously...

  4. I know how you feel being injured. I just found out yesterday I have a herniated disc in my back causing nerve problems. I am still able to be active (taking off running for a little) with spin class and body workouts, but I still always have that feeling of WANTING to be 100%. I hope these steroids and physical therapy will get me in tip top shape before marathon training starts. Good luck to you and your injury! On the bright side it is better to be injured now rather than right before the marathon!
