The Best and Worst Thing

I was supposed to swim yesterday morning.

I could probably end my story there.  However, I'd like to explain a few things.

I am an early riser...bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for about 95% of the time (I'm reserving 5% for if I'm ever woken up suddenly at an odd hour for no good reason, then it's probably not as pretty).  I wake, I get caffeinated, and then I'm ready to rock my day.

Yesterday morning, not so much.  Was it a "case of the Mondays" already?!

My alarm is usually set for 4:00am.  I have to take a pill for hypothyroidism, then wait 30 minutes before I can take in the sweet glory that is coffee.  I usually end up trying to sleep for those 30 minutes, or at least just shut my eyes and organize my day in my head.  4:30am, I'm up and getting at that coffee!  5:00am I'm out the door to either run or swim.

This is the normal plan, and has been for a long time (over two years, off and on again every once in a while), so when my body says "Nope...I'm going back to sleep", best believe I obey and let it happen.  That's seriously the only time that the snooze button can be hit in my eyes, since it's not too often that my body and brain both say "Nooooooooo ooooooo oooooooooooooo".

So yesterday was a rest day for me.  I did make a deal with myself (just before falling asleep for the third time) that I would get some Yoga done.  I teach Yoga and Pilates in my A.P.E. classes on Mondays, so that worked out well.  :)

My lunch:  an Amy's burrito, brown rice and quinoa, and my favorite thing of all time, WHOLLY GUACAMOLE.  A friend at work jokes about how I'll put that Wholly Guacamole on anything...even sweet potatoes.

Harry was on dinner duty, and pasta was had.  While watching some "Modern Family" we had saved on the DVR, someone on the show mentioned cookies.  Immediately, the two runners that lived in the house wanted cookies.  This might be one of the worst things about being in a relationship with a runner.  I mean, hello?  Who's going to turn down cookies...ever...especially if their willpower was so weak that very morning to get up to train?  Not me, said the flea.  Or someone who trains five or six days a week?  After baking the last of our cookie dough (what a sad day) and allowing them to cool for a bit, an idea hit my lips before it even had time to process in my brain.  I asked Harry if he wanted vanilla ice cream with his cookies.

*le facepalm*

Probably one of the best things about being in a relationship with a runner is the encouragement.  Obviously this can't be the case for everyone, but the Kid really does knock it out of the park with advice, reassuring words, pushing me when I need it, and plenty, PLENTY of pats on the back...and some back rubs.

What are your "Best and Worst" thoughts regarding relationships or friendships with others whom enjoy the same activities as you?

Any fun dinners planned this week?  Tell me about it!
My Pinterest boards for noms are always over-flowing, but I get most of my ideas from y'all!

When is "okay" for you to gently hit press the *SNOOZE* button?

  1. This could be good or bad, but when your friend is also your running buddy there's a tendency to egg each other on to run an extra mile ... you know, well, we're already at 7, why not go ahead and get in 8. Sure! Let's do it!

    1. LEGIT! I mess with Harry (he's the only human on the planet that I have consistently run with) when we're finishing a run and sprint out the last bit, to "race". But he starts it most of the time. ;)

  2. Alex actually doesn't eat as many desserts as I do, so he won't encourage that behavior in me. SAD, isn't it?

I made a super easy (NOT very traditional) pad thai with steak that was awesome. So good, Alex would have given it a standing ovation had he not been busy eating.

Sometimes it's good to sleep in if it doesn't become a habit. Your body needs rest as much as it needs to be active.

  3. I loooove this! I've found that working out at the end of my work day is the best bet for me personally, because I like to use it to release stress. We'll see what happens when it gets too hot for me. :) My recipes could definitely use some help - I'm horrible at eating well and I know my body could really use it!

    1. I envy people who can run in the evening. Harry is one of them.

  4. Not sure which I love more: guac or cookies. Very tough call.

    1. I can't make anyone choose...omg. Could you imagine a world of only guac and no cookies, or only cookies and no guac? :(
