Marathon Training: Week 14 [Out Sick]

Slightly bundled up again this morning, with it being about 44*F when I stepped out for an easy run through the 'hood.

Behold, my "Easy run EZ bun".

The air was crisp and cold...I was in Heaven!

The park near my house was full of runners.  In fact, people are running everywhere.  You'd think there was some large event coming up soon (IN FOUR WEEKS!) or something.:)  Five easy miles done, with plenty of time to spare to relax and shower before Sophs woke up.  True story:  I sat down on her bed next to her with an open bag of chocolate chips, and held one out to her while she was asleep.  She opened her eyes, nabbed the chocolate chip out of my hand and threw it in her face.  Chocolate-chip pancakes for breaky!

She attempted separating an egg for the first time ever, and SUCCEEDED!  <3  So proud of her!

Also, her hair is ridiculous.

I totally jacked this recipe from my friend Nicole, from Geek Turned Athlete, but threw in chocolate-chips instead of blueberries.  Here's her recipe:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • Chocolate chips (I use milk, rather than semi-sweet), 1 cup or more

Preheat griddle to 350*F or a pan on med-low to med heat.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

In a small bowl, combine milk, egg yolks, and 2 tablespoons melted butter; add to flour mixture, whisking until smooth.

In a small bowl, beat egg whites at medium-high speed with an electric mixer until stiff (Sophia thinks this is the COOLEST!). Gently fold into batter. Gently fold in chocolate chips.

Spray nonstick cooking spray in pan or on griddle. Ladle about 1/4-cup batter for each pancake onto hot griddle or pan. Cook pancakes for 2 to 3 minutes, or until tops are covered with bubbles and edges look cooked. Turn and cook the other side. Serve with more butter and real maple syrup.

My pancakes.  Sophs put smiley faces on hers.

After pajama day (my idea), we dropped off Sophs and ran some errands.  TJs was on the list, and we learned a valuable lesson:  We like TJs, perhaps too much.  We got some snacks to go along with our obligatory "Drop off Sophs" brews.

Paired with my Shiner Oktoberfest.

And football.:)

Week Fourteen Wrap-Up

Monday - 45 minutes spin class (CLASS!  No more solo!)
Tuesday - Rest, the sickies started taking over here with the sore throat
Wednesday - 5.01 miles @ GMP with the /R/iver /R/unners.  Felt fine this evening!
Thursday - Nope...rest.
Friday - MORE rest.  I went to sleep at 8:30pm.
Saturday - FELT MUCH BETTER.  12.14 miles (four miles @ warm-up pace, 8.14 miles @ GMP)
Sunday - Felt even better than Saturday!  R&R paid off big time!  5.01 easy 'hood miles.

22.16 whopping miles for the week.  I can't be upset about that.  CANNOT.  I did the right thing, giving my body what it needed to get through illness.

Next week is a peak week.  I'm excited and feel very rested!

  1. Sophie's hair is AMAZING. And you are right. Don't be upset--it is all part of the larger picture. You are going to have far fewer miles than that before long!

  2. I've always wanted to try TJ's pub cheese, but haven't yet. Must do it soon!
