And Away We Go! [Marathon Training Begins!]

Marathon training officially begins TODAY!  For the next 18 weeks, I'll be doing so much of this!

And some of THIS!

And a little bit of THAT!

And...!

Okay, I'm going a little overboard.

I do feel prepared (and pretty gosh darn excited!) to go into the training that will get me over that finish line.  I have run this course twice (2009, 2012), but I never really felt mentally or physically prepared.  I wonder if it's because of the experiences I have, or the fact that I live here now, that makes me feel more confident?  I feel like I have more ducks in a row than I did before; I've become more organized, and have reflected on past mistakes.

I have a plan in training and recovery (I really believe that blogging has helped create this phenomenon [for me]), and I have all the support I could possibly need (thanks to family, friends, and my Mr. Wonderful!!).  I will be posting my training summary every week, in hopes to add reflection and keeping myself motivated.  Marathon training can really take it out of you at some point.  It's such a long training period that can become physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting.  I'm looking forward to reading y'all's marathon training, too!  I know that none of you will let me down in the encouragement department.  ;)

I have this week off from school (I work for a year-round school), so it looks like my first week of marathon training will be extra restful!  I am looking forward to getting some cleaning done around the house, watching some motivational movies and reading.  I may even treat myself to a ride along the Lakefront!  Though it is a non-running day for me, I am joining Harry for a short run to kick off the training.  I'm very grateful to have him (always), and am especially happy to have someone with which to train, look to for advice and a reassuring hug if I need one.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to cliche the hell out of today and watch "Spirit of the Marathon" for the first time during this training cycle.  So much pointing at the TV and gleefully squealing "Hey! I live there now!".  <3 Thanks, Netflix!

What's the most intimidating event you've ever trained for?  Did you OWN IT?!

Have you tried any new kind of food lately?
-I picked up some Ranier cherries (Harry's fave!) at the store, and we totally devoured them yesterday afternoon.  DELISH.

Random:  What are you grateful for today?

  1. You and Harry are a great support to each other, not just in running, and falling back on that will be awesome throughout training.

I am excited to watch your training and will be cheering you on from New Jersey! (And in October.)

Most intimidating I guess would be Boston.

  3. I admire your dedication to marathon training. I don't think I have that in me -I'm good with a half and I find it challenging enough. Sounds like you are really ready to start. Looking forward to watching your progress this summer. Love the Katniss video.

  4. Good luck as you kick off your training cycle! I'm heard so many great things about the Chicago Marathon, and I'm sure that after having run it twice that you'll absolutely own it this year!

  6. Dude, one thing about training in Chicago is that there is always headwind, thus you will be doubly strong by the time of the marathon :D
