Tangent Tuesday and Why I'm OKAY With Missing a Workout

SNEAK PEAK ------->  Apera sent me one of their brand new bags!  I can't wait to do the review for you.

TANGENT TIME:

The bad part about moving all of your stuff into a new gym bag is when you forget something.  Like your cycling shoes.  Well that workout just wasn't happening.  I took a picture of myself instead.

Am I being a cycling snob?  Maybe.  I've been riding my bike and the spin bike for YEARS with these shoes, and I simply can't bring myself to ride without them.  What I also realized was that I had left the house without a lunch, or a breakfast, and had to hit the store anyway.  I felt so out of sorts.  Can we just blame the time change for everything?

Also, this picture is so deceiving --- it would appear that I'm wearing Hammer pants.  I am not.

Lunch couldn't come fast enough for some reason.  I was starving, maybe because of all of the rich, fatty foods I enjoyed over the weekend.   Or maybe it was because it took my sweet potato 12 minutes to cook in the microwave.

I picked up some of these bad boys today.  NEED THE VIT C!

After a long afternoon with some candy-detoxing kiddos, I was ready to be home.  Relaxing.  Chillin'.  Stalking you guys.:)  Harry had class, so I had the house and Netflix all to myself.  Whilst Facebooking, I noticed a ton of people already getting ready for a holiday two months away.

While Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of my most favorite times of the year, I am not too pleased with the thought of seeing Christmas trees, lights and stockings already up in the stores.  In fact, it makes me feel oogey.

This might be a solution, if I didn't like turkey sammiches so much.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my workout didn't happen this morning.  Would it have felt blissful to flush out the tiny bit of tightness in my quads?  Yes.  Was I upset by the fact that a workout wasn't happening?  Absolutely not.

Wanna know why?

While it would've been nice to get my endorphins on, I was going to be furiously rushed and severely frustrated.  I was already risking not washing my hair (two things here:  HENCE THE RED HEADBAND, and Mondays are horrible to be a hair washing day...), and I wasn't in the mood to skip any meals.  I'm not sure anyone would be in the mood for that (for me to skip meals, hah).  I didn't prioritize correctly, and that's probably 90% why I'm okay with missing one workout this week.

I can't fret over that.  I've been coaching my volleyball teams, working hard on Halloween stuff in my gym, and traveling.  Perhaps this was the universe's way of saying "Dude...chill this morning".  It's seriously okay if you miss a workout because you're overwhelmed.  You can't take that personally.  All I could do this morning is take care of the things I didn't previously have time for, and not worry about skipping a training sesh.  My legs will forgive me, too.

Side note:  I just looked at the clock, completely exhausted, eyes getting bloodshot, and it's only 7:52pm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you freak out if you miss a run or a training session, or are you good with accepting your workout fate?

RANDOM RUNNING QUESTION:  Do you have a favorite trail, loop, or route?
-I have a few around here, but I really miss the trails out by my own workplace in the 'burbs!

What shows are you into right now?
-American Horror Story for me!

QUICK:  Are you enjoying some fruit today?  Tell me all about it.:)

  1. I'm having to accept my workout fate at the moment. I'm generally ok with it if it is a one time thing, but if it is a back to back thing, then intervention is necessary!

  2. I do freak out if I miss a run or a workout! This morning I have a sick boy at home, and I had to run to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription. Can I squeeze in a 4 miler before work? You betcha...

  3. I used to freak out about a missed workout (mostly because it makes me miserable) but this past month made me come to terms with slowing down a little bit. I was running myself ragged! PS. I got an Apera Bag too...OBSESSED! Can't wait to read your review! :)

  4. I don't really freak out too much when I miss a work out I just remind myself the next day that I really have to go on it. Its always good to give my body a rest day too when I am on the go a lot.

  5. I totally blame the time change! I forgot my lunch yesterday too and that never happens! I'm usually okay with missing a workout but there are days when the guilt is strong and so I force myself to do a little something (burpees, a walk with the dogs, yoga). It helps remove some of the guilt.

    1. If I drop one more thing, I'm going to blame it on the time change. That's how serious this has gotten.

  7. I'm okay missing a workout if I need to sleep, although I don't like to. I tend to give myself a hard time about missing unless I'm sick or the weather is terrible (if it's flooding and you can't leave your home, it's safe to say you won't be running or going to the gym). Sometimes your body really does need the extra sleep more than the extra workout, though!

Our mall is already decorated for Christmas. They are out to make that money.

  8. Great post. I have come to realize that missing a workout is not the end of the world but if I miss too many my mood begins to change not in a good way.

  9. hahaha, those indeed look like hammer pants. And crud, what a stubborn sweet potato! (I love those for a quick snack/mini-meal!! <3 + hooray for wholly guacamole!)

I've definitely had to make peace with missing workouts + the fact that missing one (or a couple [sigh]) isn't the end of the world!

I recently started watching Scrubs, and it is wonderful in every way. :O
